I have to be short again, but I have two quick, funny stories from English class.
One day one of the girls came wearing a shirt with some English words one it. Everyone wanted to know what it said, so they asked me. They were real words, but it wasn't an actual sentence, so I told them it didn't make any sense. Another girl said, Öh, it doesn't have syntax!" and I was like, "YES!" Something I'm doing is working.
It's harvest season back home on the Palouse, so last week I taught them harvest words. They were really confused about canning. Then someone had a realization and asked if the ground froze in the winter how we were able to eat, and I said that's what I was trying explain; canning is what we do with things like peaches, apples... I think that blew a few minds. They still don't get it, so we'll focus on talking about food this week.
